Spanish referees have lodged a formal complaint against Real Madrid president Florentino Perez and the club’s official channel to the anti-violence committee to defend their integrity and professionalism in the face of accusations of stealing league titles and corruption in the refereeing system.

In an official statement released by the referees, the complaints were lodged against Perez, the Real Madrid channel and the club itself as part of an institutional action plan by the Spanish Referees Syndicate to protect the dignity, safety and protection of referees.
The union explained in its statement that the repetition of certain public messages and broadcast content that systematically question and denigrate the referee contributes to the deterioration of the climate of respect necessary for sports activities and may lead to tension, hostility or violence towards referees.
The Arbitration Syndicate stressed the importance of recent complaints to protect referees and ensure they can do their jobs in a safe environment based on respect and coexistence, declaring its commitment to legal and institutional measures to combat any manifestation of violence, harassment or abuse of arbitration.
Last week, the union submitted a memorandum to the Competitions Committee to open a disciplinary investigation and demanded a formal apology from the club and its president, saying the statements were not subject to freedom of speech or sports criticism, as Perez not only pointed out refereeing errors, but also accused the refereeing body of committing a corruption offense for two years.
The measures came after the refereeing body ran out of patience with Perez’s latest statements, as the Real Madrid president told a press conference that he had played too many seasons and won 7 Champions Leagues and 7 Spanish titles because the other titles were stolen from him by the same referees over two decades of systematic corruption.
In his statements to the “La Sexta” network, Perez added that the referees themselves continue to scandalously perform the same actions, which led to stealing 16 or 18 points from the team in the current season.
