Enrique: Losing to Morocco is my biggest joy in the World Cup

Luis Enrique will play in his third Champions League final and second in a row with PSG on May 30 against Arsenal.

In this regard, Enrique said: “I think last year the pressure was more. The fact that we hadn’t won the title before meant a lot to the club and the fans. It was positive pressure, supportive and encouraging…but it was suffocating pressure. Do you understand what I mean? It’s like a tight hug that kills you.”

He explained in the statement published by “AS” newspaper about the deadline for ending his coaching career. “I don’t want to be that old coach, I don’t want that, but of course I see more and more old coaches. I’m thinking over sixty.’

He continued. “Besides, I joke with my brother Felipe and say I should retire before you… He’s a year younger than me, he’s 55, and he’ll retire at 61… Well, do the math yourself.”

He revealed about his dream of coaching “Sporting” of Lisbon. “Sporting missed a great opportunity by not giving me the job in the first place. Now even my father is betting on Luis Enrique as a coach, and of course it’s understandable. The opportunity came when I was unknown, literally unknown. Well, yes, as an unknown coach, I was unclear.”

“Barcelona did this by providing me with reserve training. I am afraid of failure in my hometown. I saw Beto who did not fail but succeeded as a player and coach. But he was criticized and dismissed by Sporting. Catalina Hill.”

And he continued Luis Enrique“I consider it unlikely. Besides, I am now used to the highest level, where I feel more comfortable. I can’t completely rule it out, but I don’t think it’s possible either.”

Luis Enrique spoke about the Spanish national team, saying: “My best memory. The last game I played was against Morocco where we vastly outplayed one of the best and most promising African teams. They had to defend in their own half for ninety minutes plus 30 minutes of extra time, so 120 minutes, and we lost on penalties.”

He continued. “I was subjected to criticism then, and I am subjected to it now, because it was my biggest failure. But this is my biggest joy in the World Cup. Why? Because we did everything we could to win the game, we were better than our opponents, even if we weren’t at our best.”

“What they consider a tragedy and a deception is for me a joy that I will never forget. I always have very fond memories of World Cup tournaments. I’m looking forward to watching the World Cup and enjoying the Spanish national team with a glass of beer or cider this summer.”
