Hulu is set to exist as both a streaming service and an app (for now)

More work is needed to bring the full potential of Hulu to Disney +, to improve the program’s impact through preferred users, to increase Disney’s ability to track users’ advertising, to disrupt the sharing of passwords, to improve the concept, and to simplify the technology of Disney to save money, reliability, and promotion.

Today, Disney is closer to its ultimate goal and has announced that Hulu’s history can now connect to Disney +, which will bring “their Hulu viewing history, watch lists, and opinions to Disney +.”

“Connecting your profile 18+ will be available to eligible subscribers of Disney +, Hulu bundle and Disney +, Hulu, ESPN in the coming days and will roll out to all subscribers later this year,” the Disney announcement added. Records arriving at Disney+ through the bundled Disney+, Hulu, and HBO Max are not eligible at this time, Variety noted.

“When you sign in (to the Disney+ program), Hulu-only subscribers will continue to enjoy small samples of Disney+ and ESPN to get a taste of what is offered to subscribers,” Disney said today.

Disney is also working to integrate more content from Hulu to Disney+. It said today that it will begin testing a new TV guide for Disney+ content, including 24/7 channels that play ABC News Live and The Simpsons. In addition, Disney+ started supporting HDR10+first through Hulu’s more than 1,000 titles, in October.

Hulu lives on

Disney will not stop supporting the Hulu subscription or the program until it completes the integration of all the technology that supports Disney + and Hulu and can offer everything and the package that Hulu offers through Disney +. It would be possible for Disney to consider killing Hulu subscriptions or, more specifically, the program at that time.

However, continuing to allow people to subscribe to Hulu without Disney+ is beneficial. Currently, Disney+ subscriptions start at $12/month, Hulu subscriptions start at $12/month, and Disney+ and Hulu bundles start at $13/month. These prices make this bundle seem like an excellent value that may seem higher than paying $13/month for the Disney+ version that includes the entire Hulu library. Additionally, streaming customers are said to be unable to unsubscribe if they have other subscriptions.

So it seems that even though Disney continues the difficult task of merging the two streaming services, the opportunity to become a Hulu subscriber only will remain.
