Putin is pleased with Xi’s Chinese reception, but he is headed home without a pipeline deal

Russia is hoping for progress in Beijing with plans to build the new Siberian Power 2 pipeline. The pipeline will bring additional volumes of Russian gas from western Siberia to northern China via Mongolia and help Moscow compensate for the loss of the European market.
