Chinese President Xi Jinping welcomed his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in Beijing in a lavish ceremony that included national flags, marching bands and cheering children.

Although Beijing’s relationship with Washington and Moscow is very different, it follows Donald Trump’s visit last week, which began with a similar welcome ceremony for the US president.
