Mercedes’ electric AMG GT 4-door coupe can go 0-60 in 2 seconds


The era of the most successful Mercedes EVs has arrived. The German automaker has finally unveiled its new coupe, the AMG GT 4-door, with technology borrowed from the automaker’s XX concept that last year made history with. driving 24,901 kilometers in 8 days on the Nardò Ring in southern Italy.

With the production model, Mercedes has rethought the way the motors and batteries are run in hopes of delivering a high-performance car that can go toe-to-toe with hypercars. The new AMG GT uses axial flux motors developed by Mercedes subsidiary YASAdelivering 1,153 horsepower and 1,475 lb-ft of torque. Mercedes claims to be the first to use this type of motor, which due to its thin disc shape weighs a fraction of a radial motor while delivering the same horsepower.

A high-performance battery, meanwhile, uses long, low-profile cylindrical cells that are 1 inch in diameter, allowing heat to flow from the core to the outside almost instantaneously. In addition, Mercedes has developed a special, high-quality non-motorized fuel that does not waste electricity. Oil circulates around each cell for direct cooling. Inspired by Formula 1, this system provides 20 kW of cooling power, or four times more cooling than standard EQS battery. You can pull it over and over again, and naturally it doesn’t get too hot.

The AMG GT 4-door coupe is built on an 800-volt structure that can handle very quickly up to 600 kW. This combined with a new cooling system enables charging from 10-80 percent in just 11 minutes, says Mercedes. A nickel-cobalt-manganese-aluminum cathode, combined with a silicon-based anode, can achieve an energy of over 298 Wh per kilogram. The EV can also switch from 800V to 400V when needed and supports five international DC standards (including NACS and CCS2).

Of course, this all translates into the ultimate form of demons. But, like many automakers, Mercedes is concerned about how racing fans will take to the silent electric motor. That’s why the AMG GT 4-door range will also feature over 1,600 audio files from the AMG GT R to simulate engine notes, exhaust bulbs, and clunking noises when changing gears. It also has a clear voice for opening, entering, and charging the car.

But it’s not just a fast car that makes fake noise. The AMG GT 4 door coupe also has a lot of computer power. Mercedes put the brains of the car in the AMG Race Engineer Core, running on the new MB.OS operating system. Instead of dozens of tiny chips arguing with each other, one high-tech chip sits in the middle of the car and simultaneously controls everything from driving, charging, stopping, and cooling the battery.

Inside you will find not one, not two, but three screens, all under one continuous glass. These include a 10.2-inch driver display, a 14-inch angled multimedia center screen, and a 14-inch head-up display running MB.OS. Owners can track all of their metrics, including aero, temperature, and power consumption in real time.

Mercedes did not release pricing, but said the GT 55 model will be available in late 2026, followed by the GT 63 in early 2027.
