“We all agreed that we need to be more aligned on improving our strategy and standards,” Gillespie said.
“We can all scream about a decision, but what changes? Do we just apologize on Monday? Do we accept that apology?
“What needs to change? Do we need to increase digital performances, or have full-time referees?
“Finally, we’re going to the World Cup and the Scottish FA is making some money. How can we get something to improve things?
“Can we as a club support better resources, be it financial or in other ways, like stadia cameras?”
Gillespie said the improvement was crucial for the sake of “the reputation of Scottish football”.
“But I don’t think at this stage we should say VAR is not good,” he said.
“VAR is there for improvement and you see other leagues where it has a positive effect, or a more positive effect, and I think that’s the strategy at the moment.
“In that meeting, there was a definite alignment to look at a strategy, talk about it and move it forward.”
Gillespie felt it was Rangers’ responsibility to push for improvement.
“We have a great belief in Rangers that we are the top club and we want to be the top club,” he added. We want Scottish football to be the best it can be.
“Our request is that at this point, regulatory and governing bodies begin to lead alongside us.
“It will improve all standards and in particular refereeing, which is the hot topic at the moment.
“Our view is that there’s a lot of concern and how can we get involved to improve it and strengthen it and increase resources?
“This includes leadership from the governing body but also from other clubs around us.”
