Check Out All the New Google Glass Coming for Android XR

Google has been there to tease its Android XR-powered smart glasses for the past year and a half—since it announced new developments mixed platform in December 2024. Now, we’re starting to see more polished versions of the device, several of which will go on sale this fall.

Pa Google I/Othe company first showed us on the design of smart glasses Eyewear launched by Warby Parker and Gentle Monster. These smart glasses are made by Samsung and Google, while the glass companies handle the design of the frames.

Xreal also showed up at I/O to show off its upcoming Project Aura, which features a pair of tiny glasses with a headphone-like design. Apple Vision Pro and Samsung Galaxy XR-Supporting the full version of the Android app with gestures for compatibility.

The hearing-only smart glasses from Warby Parker and Gentle Monster will launch later this year. More complex versions with displays built into the glass will soon arrive. Xreal’s Project Aura is coming back this fall.

I had the opportunity to wear early versions of these frames and test some of the performance controls.

I didn’t get to see the final finished designs from Warby Parker and Gentle Monster. Instead, my demos were on unfinished glasses from Samsung and Google. The most impressive thing is how light they are. Google says that most of the work that Samsung did was to reduce the technology to reduce the weight. The arms of the glasses are still small, however.

The sound quality is equally impressive. As soon as I asked Gemini to play Radiohead, the sound went around my head and sounded powerful, even though I was in a quiet room.
