A few Democrats called an informal meeting on Capitol Hill on Monday to criticize the “low” and “deplorable” actions of the Department of Justice and Live Nation-Ticketmaster, and to see how they will go after Trump’s actions if he wins the power of Congress again in November.
When DOJ to solve and Live Nation, which came within a week of the lawsuit and with a promise of up to $280 million, received huge returns, Democrats currently do not have the power in either chamber to establish a committee. This means that Monday, which is known as the shadow court, was seen differently from most government events. Instead of sitting on raised seats at the back of the courtroom, lawmakers sat at the tables below, eyes and witnesses including California Attorney General Rob Bonta, one of the AGs continuing to fight Live Nation-Ticketmaster, Roger Alford who removed the Trump administration, and several entertainment players, including a member of the band The Hold Steady. Several artists who were asked to appear on the forum declined because they feared for their lives, according to House Judiciary Committee member Jamie Raskin (D-MD), who participated in the meeting with the Senate Homeland Security Standing Committee on the investigation, which is member Richard Blumenthal (D-CT).
While their claims may not go into the congressional record, the court gave Democrats a way to air their concerns, which included that the DOJ’s contract was the result of corporate influence. “This is not like any other game,” Raskin told reporters. “Corruption has reached the government so we have to start making history because it is a very big task. We will use the results from all these shadows to find out where we can go.” As a sign of the conference’s importance, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) delivered opening remarks to kick it off.
“Corruption has reached the government so we have to start making history because it is a big job”
The MPs pointed out that countries ” a major victory in a jury verdict as proof that DOJ cost change it failed to adopt the terms of a trust agreement, claiming it was due to corruption. Pa 11 page decision formthe judges checked “yes” for each question about whether the countries proved their claims. The DOJ has stood by its agreement as a victory for consumers. The agreement will still require a review of Tunney’s rules, which must ensure that it is in the public interest.
Judges are generally reluctant to reject a decision, which is why Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) rules issued promote the standard. But Alford, who was was removed from the DOJ and then he spoke In the case of opposition activists, he said it would be rare for a judge to reject the DOJ’s agreement, because the same judge is now responsible for providing appropriate solutions to the settlement of Live Nation, which could include separation.
“Divestiture, that’s the nuclear way”
Bonta said the bankruptcy filing, which is expected to be filed this week, could go beyond the separation of Live Nation and Ticketmaster. They are also considering asking for a smaller cut of Live Nation’s property or artist management businesses. “Divestiture is a nuclear option. We believe it is right, but we want to think about how we can ask the judge to help us,” he told reporters.
“The opinion they shared yesterday does not misrepresent the way the industry operates,” said Dan Wall, Live Nation’s senior vice president of corporate and regulatory affairs. “Secondary and high-demand ticketing is an industry challenge common to all advertisers, venues, and ticketing agencies. That’s why Live Nation and Ticketmaster have long supported industry reforms, including premium pricing and strong consumer protections, while continuing to invest in tools that help professionals manage demand and protect fans.”
Live Nation has promised to appeal the decision of the judges, and even before that it is possible that the judge will reject all the countries as they can help. But Monday’s meeting showed that even if that happens, Democrats are likely to remain committed to what the coalition first met.
