Gmail will start talking to you

Google is starting the new big one of Gmail called Gmail Live, a new AI-powered voice app that’s essentially Gemini Live but made for your inbox.

To use Gmail Live, click the icon that will appear in your search bar and start talking. In a press release, the Google employee showed off his presentation as he asked questions about events at his son’s school and a trip to Detroit. Gmail also released information in the form of Gmail Live, such as the date and location of a show-and-tell event at school, all from the taskbar.

It was an impressive demonstration, and you can see how Gmail Live works he can to be useful; When you search, instead of looking through the usual scary list of emails when you’re looking for details, you can simply ask Gmail Live to recognize and tell you what you’re looking for. But that means part they should be reliable – if it’s a little inaccurate, like pulling up a quick flight confirmation number at the airport, then people won’t use it.

“Trust is at the core of how we think about Gmail,” said Blake Barnes, Vice President of Gmail. Seaside. He says the company has spent a long time trying to figure out how, in every way to use Gmail Live, “you’re getting something you can trust,” even as it tries to help you with difficult questions. “It’s our job to take that hassle out of your way in a way that you can trust and rely on.” Gmail Live can also show you where it’s getting the information from, allowing you to verify what it’s telling you.

Google is bringing voice-powered AI features to Docs and Keep, too. With Docs Live, you can discuss your ideas with Gemini and it will help you create a document and capture information from places like your Gmail and Google Drive. In Keep, when you talk about things you want the app to track, it can include things like reminders and your grocery list. Gmail Live, Docs Live, and Keep’s voice-activated features will roll out to phones starting this summer for subscribers to Google’s AI Pro and Ultra tiers (though the Keep upgrade will roll out first on Android).
