Google is launching its own version of OpenClaw

Google is launching its own take on OpenClaw, the buzzy AI assistant platform which caused a stir in the tech industry earlier this year. Announced at Google I/O 2026, Gemini Spark is a full-time AI assistant which can write you emails, create continuously updated recommendations, monitor credit card statements to register hidden payments, and more.

Gemini Spark is powered by Gemini 3.5 Flash new and it runs in the background 24/7 using a virtual machine on Google Cloud. The AI ​​assistant will integrate with Workspace apps like Gmail, Docs, Sheets, and Slides, but Google is expanding integrations to third-party apps. using the Model Context Protocol (MCP)an open standard that allows AI models to connect to external systems or data. These include Canva, OpenTable, and Instacart.

This summer, Google will give Spark the ability to connect to local files through the Gemini app on macOS. “Even if you close your laptop or turn off your phone, Spark can run in the background as you go about your day,” said Josh Woodward, vice president of Google Labs, Gemini, and AI Studio. “When you use it, it’s like you’re throwing things over your shoulder, the Spark catches them, and it gets the job done.”

Google also plans to allow users to send text messages and email with Spark directly, just as OpenClaw users can chat with their agent using messaging apps. Gemini Spark will finally be able to connect to Chrome and let users see the latest updates on the upcoming UI called “Android Halo.”

Spark will work “at your direction,” according to Google, meaning you can control what it connects to when it’s turned on. The system will also ask for permission before performing “advanced operations,” such as making a payment or sending an email. Gemini Spark is going to “trusted testers” this week and will arrive in beta for Google AI Ultra subscribers in the US next week.

Along with Gemini 3.5 Flash, Spark will use it Google’s AI-powered coding tool Antigravitywhich is also getting a big change. Google is launching a new desktop app called Antigravity that will serve as a place to monitor AI assistants and their tasks.
