IPL: Vaibhav Suryavanshi leads Royals to victory over LSG

India’s wonder kid Vaibhav Suryavanshi scored a brilliant 93 off 38 balls as Rajasthan Royals beat Lucknow Super Giants to boost their chances of reaching the Indian Premier League playoffs.

The 15-year-old smashed 10 sixes in another stunning innings that saw him return to the top of the tournament’s run-scoring charts. 88 of Suryavanshi’s 93 runs came from boundaries as he dominated the already relegated Super Giants.

He was certain of his second century of the campaign when Abdul Samad miscued a deep-in shot from Mohsin Khan.

Earlier in the day, India selector Ajit Agarkar talked about dropping Suryavanshi from the national team’s ODI squad to face Afghanistan next month.

There have been growing calls for the teenager to be called up to India’s white-ball squad but he has been kept in India’s squad for the tour of Sri Lanka after the IPL.

“We picked him for the India A team because he is young and very promising,” said Agarkar.

“The idea is to give exposure to these youngsters. Yasaswi Jaiswal is already part of the ODI set-up. As impressive as Suryavanshi has been, there are others who have performed strongly.

“We are very excited about him and hope he can showcase his talents when he travels with this team.”

Royals were slowed down when Suryavanshi fell but Dhruv Jurel (53* from 38 balls) ensured a win that took them to fourth in the table. This means that a win against Mumbai Indians in their final match will secure them a place in the knockouts.

Earlier, Mitchell Marsh continued his good form for the Super Giants with a 57-ball 96, with Australian Josh Inglis (29-ball 60) putting on 109 for the first wicket.

England’s Jofra Archer picked the host bowlers with 1-39, while he also ran out Rishabh Pant.
