In a world full of noise-cancelling headphones, Nothing has made a name for itself with a solid and distinctive aesthetic, often relying on a sleek design or a bold choice, especially in its budget-friendly CMF line. The Phones A follow a familiar pattern, but it’s very similar to last year’s Emotions 1. And now, they are available on Amazon and Nothing is online for $169 ($30 off), which is the new low price.
In fact, the second Nothing headphones keep the best features of the Headphone 1, only at a much lower price. The earpieces are rectangular in shape with rounded flaps; however, they use bright colors instead of indoor ones, which gives them a more subdued look. The headband and memory cups were comfortable in our testing, while the physical controls let you adjust playback, volume, noise canceling, and other features without fiddling with capacitive buttons. They also carry IP52 – which means they can withstand sweat and light rain – and support wireless listening through their USB-C and 3.5mm ports.
As for the sound quality, it can be slow out of the box. Fortunately, the default settings are easy to handle with the EQ in the Nothing X app for Android and iOS, which offers custom settings for the sub-$200 range. The noise cancellation, although it is not the same as the most expensive sets from Sony and Bose, is also good for the price, allowing you to focus on external frequencies using one-third (there is also an adjustment option). Don’t expect the noise cancellation on the microphone to be effective on phone calls.
