The people at Blur Busters have it very much documents Research shows that refresh rates of 1,000 Hz (and higher) can reduce human perception of visual motion and tremors. And while the site says you’ll eventually hit “reduced returns” from those extra frames – especially on smaller images – there’s other evidence that you may need a 40,000 Hz monitor to completely eliminate the static effect of a large enough, high-resolution monitor.
Opinion polls aside, it’s unclear how many gamers are interested in spending the extra cash on a show that breaks the four-digit refresh barrier. Although LG hasn’t announced pricing for the UltraGear 25G590B yet, other 1,000 Hz monitors tend to cost hundreds of dollars more than similar models with lower (and still adequate) refresh rates in the 240 to 360 Hz range. At the same time, the monitor is Nvidia’s GSync Pulsar and similar technologies that use “rolling scan” pulsing backlights to reduce glare, even on “low” 360 Hz monitors.
LG says the 25G590B is “designed especially for first-person shooters” and mentions “eports-based design” in its product line, indicating that the display is aimed at a small group of gamers who play reflex action games for a living. For everyone else, we recommend ignoring the “bigger is better” and keeping your hardware budget RAM prices.
