The specialist in orthopedic surgery and injuries spoke about the injury received by “Barcelona” star Fermin Lopez, which will not allow him to participate in the World Cup in America, Canada and Mexico next summer.
Fermin Lopez was expected to be one of the key players for Spain at the World Cup, but… The injury he received in the game of “Real Betis” made him undergo an operationTo treat a fracture of the fifth metatarsal of the right foot.
Mundo Deportivo newspaper contacted orthopedic and injury specialist Dr. Pedro Luis Ripoll to learn more about the nature of the young player’s injury. The doctor explained. “Fermin sustained an accidental fracture of the fifth metatarsal bone. . . . This bone is vulnerable to fracture for two reasons: mechanical stress resulting from uneven distribution of weight on the foot, or sudden sprain of the ankle, leading to further cracking and fracture of the bone.”
“The most appropriate procedure for young people is to have surgery,” continues Dr. Ripoll.
He explains that the procedure “involves fixing the bone with an inner tube guided by a screw that ensures compression of the bone fragments.” The doctor confirms that this is the best way to ensure “healing of the fracture”.
Dr. Ripoll’s diagnosis indicates an approximate recovery period of about two months. In other words, it is almost certain that Fermin will not be able to participate in the world championship with the Spanish team.
