The Lions of Teranga won the continental title in January and were later transferred to the Moroccan national team.

The president of the Saudi Arabian Football Federation, Yasser Al-Meshal, sparked controversy after his comments about the Senegalese national team, which he described as the champions of Africa.

The Saudi Arabian national team will face their Senegal counterpart next June 9 in their last friendly in the United States of America in their final camp before the 2026 World Cup.

Speaking to Saudi newspaper Al-Sharq Al-Awsat, Al-Meshal was asked about Green’s plan ahead of the World Cup and confirmed that two friendlies against Ecuador and Senegal will be played, with the possibility of a third match agreed.

The president of the Saudi Arabian Federation said. “As previously announced, on May 30 in New York we will meet with the national team of Ecuador, and then there will be Senegal.” African champion June 9 in Houston.

He added: “There is a third match to be announced very soon on June 4 against one of the lower ranked teams.”

He concluded. “I hope that coach (Georgos) Donis will benefit from the upcoming matches, especially since he will have a 20-day camp, and I hope that will be enough to prepare the team for the World Cup.”

Notably, Al-Meshal described Senegal as champions of Africa despite the Confederation of African Football’s decision to disqualify them from the Nations Cup last January at the expense of Morocco.

Last March, the African Confederation decided to consider the Senegal national team as a loser for reaching the final match, depriving them of their second title in their history, while the Moroccan national team was also crowned for the second time.
