“Barriers naturally solve a problem, which is how you keep a clean space, which has different heights between two things,” says Steven Harton, general manager of the Herman Miller Company. It is said that the design choice was inspired by the curved cables of older technology such as mobile phones and early mechanical keyboards. The result is fun and organized.
Finally, there is the rotary dial. This is the height adjustment mechanism on Coyl’s desk. Instead of using traditional paddles to move the desk up and down, Herman Miller uses a dial that sounds like something you’d find on a school stereo — or a fancy gaming mouse. It allows you to clearly see the height of the desk up to 10 inches. (The display shows the height of the table.) This level of detail is the kind of feature precision players like, digging into settings to maximize performance.
“Happily, the way it feels and the feedback you get is a high-level experience with a button or switch,” says Harton. “When you use singing, there’s a resistance that’s fun.” We have to wait Knob Feel Verdict exactly how fun it is.
There are other advantages. Coyl’s desk has connectors on either side, which players can use to hang their headphones or backpack. An optional front-end upgrade adds a top shelf to the desk, allowing players to add small shelves and hooks to store game controllers, small plants, lights, or their favorite Funko Pop. There is also the option of adding other Herman Miller accessories such as monitors.
The base model of the Coyl desk starts at $1,095. Add a cable management system, and it will cost $1,495, and with the rear panel, it goes up to $1,635. The round laminate desktop comes in four colors: black, white, walnut, and ash. You can configure up to four desk presets.
