Challenge Cup final – Montpellier v Ulster: Bale hopes to ‘make some memories’

Bale’s experience playing for Ulster began with his introduction off the bench in December’s 61-7 thrashing of Racing 92 in the Challenge Cup.

His time with Uttar Pradesh would end in the same competition against different French opposition, with the result unlikely to be as clear-cut on this occasion.

Bell expects the battle at the front to be crucial to the outcome of the competition.

“It’s exciting. They’ve got a couple of big international tight ends and Jordan Uless is in the middle, the Wallabies, so I know him quite well.

“They’ll definitely be there or thereabouts and definitely compete really hard for that, but we’re equally excited for that battle.

“As a rugby player, winning is the ultimate goal for the team. You lose together, you win together and you do most of the work together throughout the week.”

Bale, who missed his side’s semi-final win over Exeter Chiefs with a foot injury, described his time in Belfast as “probably the best experience” of his career.

He took the move to gain experience playing overseas, broadening his rugby horizons.

“There’s a lot of talent coming through Ulster Rugby and it’s really exciting. I’m glad I can be a small part of that, especially with all the young front-rowers we have here at the club.

“It was great. We all learn from each other and it’s a great experience.

“I guess the best thing about rugby is building those bonds, learning together and getting better.”
