Now we have a good idea of what Sony’s upcoming 10th anniversary will look like before tomorrow’s launch. Leaked images of what appears to be Sony’s 1000X “The ColleXion” Edition have been shared online by OnLeaks and HotEUDealsfeaturing larger leather pads and “generously sized” earcups compared to Sony’s current models Pictures of the WH-1000XM6.
We knew to expect this audio after the name “ColleXion”. appeared briefly on Sony’s website in April with the model number “WH-1000XX,” but this was not provided with any images at the time. Now, not only are we seeing the full specs of the headset and its hardware, but the details shared along with the images are related to the May 19 launch date and pricing. The ColleXion is said to be available for $649 in the US – $200 more than the flagship XM6 at launch.
At that premium price, you’re getting black or white color options and some pretty cool features, including color-matched metal yokes that attach the headset to the headset drivers. The buttons on the earcups are also more visible, and the microphone grilles have been redesigned from mesh cavities to larger holes that appear to punch directly through the earcup chassis.
The released promotional slides that were downloaded include more detailed information. Users can expect up to 24 hours of battery life, or up to 32 hours with ANC turned off, depending on HotEUDeals. That noise cancellation is handled by the V3 processor, along with the QN3 processor already used in the XM6. Sony says it has also partnered with three Grammy-winning studios – Battery Studios, Sterling Sound, and Coast Mastering – to help tune the ColleXion’s bespoke drivers.
The setup includes a headphone jack, which has a USB-C cable for charging and a 3.5mm cable for wired playback. The case is very different from previous Sony designs – this one looks like a handbag, with a fixed handle and a magnetic closure instead of the usual zipper. Don’t look like a bra (I’m looking at you, Apple AirPods Max.)
