‘Selfish’ Mohamed Salah should leave Anfield final – Wayne Rooney

Salah, who announced his decision to leave Anfield in March, told reporters in December that he had broken up with manager Slo.

The four-time Premier League Golden Boot winner scored 29 times in Slott’s first season in the Premier League in 2024-25 as the Reds won the title.

But he has failed to match the heights of last season, finding the net just 12 times in 40 games, leaving the reigning champions fifth in the Premier League.

“Salah has had a very poor season so I think he is trying to beat himself up and improve himself,” Rooney said.

“So I think he was very selfish in what he did on those two occasions. It’s a shame and the fans will be on his side, but when you look deep and you’ve been in the dressing room in the same situation, Mo Salah knows exactly what he’s doing.

“That’s your manager. You can insult him in public twice the way he is and you can’t get away with it. And if I were Arne Sloan, I’d have to pull up the ladder and just say, listen, you’re not coming anywhere near the place on Saturday, whether you like it or not. I really doubt he’ll do it, but I think he should.”

“Obviously he deserves a good red card, but does he deserve that alone? It’s the second time he’s done it. It’s a shame to see one of the greatest icons of the Premier League, perhaps, leave the Premier League in this situation.”
