The Portuguese leaves the door open for a summer exit
Portuguese Marco Silva, the coach of England’s “Fulham”, is considered one of the most popular candidates to take over the technical leadership of “Benfica” in the coming period, if Jose Mourinho decides to leave his position to gain new experience, which could lead him to Real Madrid.
Silva is highly respected in the corridors of Benfica thanks to his outstanding work with Fulham in the English Premier League, after he managed to build a competitive team based on an organized attacking style, in addition to the ability to develop players and achieve technical stability.
Meanwhile, the Portuguese manager’s future with Fulham is still surrounded by a lot of uncertainty, especially as his current contract expires next June without a formal agreement being reached on an extension.
According to reports, the Fulham board are committed to keeping Silva and have offered him a contract extension for a further three seasons in an attempt to maintain the technical stability the team has enjoyed under his leadership in recent years.
After Fulham’s 1:1 draw against Wolverhampton, Silva spoke about his future, saying: “I haven’t made a final decision yet and I fully understand the fans’ desire to know the future of the club, but I can’t announce anything until the decision is fully decided.”
Fulham’s challenges next summer are not limited to the manager, as the club also faces a crisis over the future of Wales international Harry Wilson, who is out of contract after a superb season in which he scored 10 goals in the English Premier League.
Speculation about Marco Silva’s next destination has increased recently, especially after his name was previously linked with Chelsea before signing Xabi Alonso, in addition to his clear ambitions to work at Europe’s highest levels.
The Portuguese coach previously also rejected huge financial offers from Saudi clubs, showing that he wants to continue competing in major European leagues, not ruling out the idea of returning to training in Portugal at the next stage.
