In the world of football, some stories don’t end the first time. Some rejected requests come back to knock on the door again, and that’s exactly what’s happening now at Real Madrid as Jose Mourinho prepares to reopen an old file that everyone thought was closed forever.

A name that surprised everyone

Reporter Miguel “Latego” Serrano has revealed that the Portuguese coach has identified his preferred candidate for the first assistant position, a name from the heart of Royals history. He is Raul Gonzalez, the legend who turned down the same offer 15 years ago.

According to website Defense Central, Mourinho wants to bring a former Royals player into his coaching staff, as he did with Aitor Karanka during his first spell in 2010, when he asked Raul, who was still a player, to step down and take over as his assistant.

But the Madrid legend then opted to continue his playing career and moved to German side Schalke, where he led them to the semi-finals of the Champions League in a historic achievement.

Perez…the biggest obstacle

Latigo Serrano explained. “Mourinho wants to include the former Real Madrid player. His preferred candidate would be Raúl González, but his return to the White House he left a year ago now seems unlikely.

The main reason is the position of Florentino Perez, who is unenthusiastic about bringing Raul back after his acrimonious departure last summer, following his disappointment at Xabi Alonso’s replacement as first-team coach despite his long wait and achievements with Castilla.
