In an embarrassing scene before the whole world, the CAF Champions League final between Sun Downs and Royal Army witnessed an unprecedented second-half delay due to a sudden malfunction affecting the video assistant referee (VAR) technology.
20 minutes of waiting… and the audience is confused
As the crowd waited for the players to return to the pitch to finish off the crucial encounter, everyone was surprised by the unreasonable delay that lasted for more than 15 minutes without any official announcement of the reason at first.
The referee reveals the reason… “The mouse is off”.
Congolese referee Ndala told players from both teams that the main reason for the delay was a technical fault with the VAR system, which required urgent attempts to fix it before the game resumed.
Informed sources revealed that the mouse device installed in the stadium was suddenly damaged due to which it stopped working completely, which disrupted the conduct of the final match.
About 20 minutes later, the referee restarted play after correcting the foul.
