Ice Hockey World Championship: Great Britain falls to USA as champion

Great Britain was beaten 5-1 by defending champions USA at the 2026 Ice Hockey World Championship in Switzerland.

Paul Cotter opened the scoring for the US but Pete Russell’s GB side equalized in the second period when Nathanael Hulbert fired a shot into the roof of the net.

But after Liam Steele was penalized for slashing, Isaac Howard put the USA into a lead they never looked like losing in Zurich.

Olivier Mathieu, Declan Carlyle and a second goal for Howard sealed the victory in the third period.

Britain, who lost to Austria in their opening game, take on Hungary on Tuesday.

Each country plays seven matches in the group stage.
