Dave Allen was beaten in just three rounds by Filip Horgovic in his hometown of Doncaster at the Eco-Power Stadium. Boxing news

Dave Allen succumbed to Filip Horgavich in just three rounds at the Eco-Power Stadium in Doncaster.

It was a heartbreaking loss for Allen in his hometown, as he suffered a stoppage defeat, his corner pulling him out of the one-sided contest in the third round.

Horgavic dominated from the start, hitting long straight shots into Allen. He gauged the distance and hit his hard right cross, a shot that caught Allen flush, early on, multiple times.

The Brit tried to loop his right over the top but misjudged the punch as it fell short. He was unable to catch or dislodge the Croatian.

Hrgovic powers into him and drives Allen into the ropes. Allen soon became a permanent target and Horgovic dropped him.

In the second round Allen was pulling his gloves to block punches. But in the third round, Horgovic started to fight back.

With the referee taking a close, concerned look, Allen’s corner, Jamie Moore and Nigel Travis dragged him into the third round.

Allen supported his training team’s call. “If Jamie and Nige say enough is enough, enough is enough,” he said. “Thank you for looking after me.

“If Jamie and Nigel think it’s the right choice, it’s the right choice.”

Well supported, Allen doesn’t want to stop his career just yet.

“Some more fights,” he said to the crowd. “Thank you all, I can’t believe it.

“I got absolutely hammered and everyone stayed until the end.”

He added: “I’m a good fighter but I’m not a great fighter. But these people have given me the career of a world champion.

“No excuses, I tried with my heart. Filip Horgavic – too good for me.”

Gomez crushes McGregor

On the undercard, Michael Gomez Jr. got off to a ferocious start, headbutting Lee McGregor before the first bell rang.

McGregor, a more natural featherweight, moved down to lightweight but still showed some of his qualities in the first round. But Gomez soon overwhelmed him with his size and work rate.

Gomez Jr. dropped McGregor in the fourth round and landed punches in the next round. Stubborn, McGregor pushed through but Gomez attacked him early in the sixth as well.

McGregor had a bad cut over his left eye, his right eye was also swollen shut. His corner finally threw in the towel to pull him out before the end of the sixth round.

Undefeated British lightweight champion Louis O’Doherty added Commonwealth titles to his collection when he dominated Ahmed Hatem to win by unanimous decision.

O’Doherty won twice by scores of 119-109 and 118-110 as he handed Hatem his first loss.
