LPGA TOUR: England’s Lottie Wade leads Kroger Queen City Championship as Charlie Hull drops further | golf news

England’s Lottie Wood will take a three-shot lead into the final round of the LPGA Tour’s Kroger Queen City Championship in Ohio.

Wade, expected to make his Team Europe debut at this September’s Solheim Cup, topped the leaderboard after following a five-under 65 with a second-round 64 in a weather-interrupted third round at Maketewah Country Club.

The world number 10 is 11 under and leading the lead over American Amanda Doherty, with Herran Ryu four strokes ahead of three-time major champion Lydia Ko in third.

Gino Thitikul is part of a five-under logjam that includes Rose Zhang, while world number one Nelly Korda and round co-leader Jin Yong Ko are tied-19th and nine strokes behind after rounds of 72 and 75 respectively.

Defending champion Charlie Hull was two off the lead after the first day but dropped to three over for the tournament after registering just one birdie – and carding three straight bogeys for a three-over 73.

How did Wade get on in Ohio?

Wade birdied the par-four third and posted back-to-back gains from the seventh, then canceled out a bogey on the par-three ninth by starting his back nine with consecutive birdies.

He took advantage of the par-five 14th and added his seventh birdie of the day on the 16th, moving him to 12 under, cutting Wade’s lead over Doherty to three strokes after a penultimate-hole bogey.

“I tried to take last week as a bit of an anomaly,” said Wade, who missed the cut at last week’s Mizuho Americas Open. “I had been playing pretty hard before, consistently, but that course was a bit funky in places, so I tried to ignore it.

“Didn’t putt very well last week and it turns out my putter grip wasn’t straight, so got a new putter grip. I putt really bad so I was obviously trying to find an excuse that wasn’t me – it was the grip.

I’ve hit a lot of fairways and greens the last two days. The first day I didn’t hit as many fairways. I think if you do that (fairway), you have a lot of potential here.”

Forsterling leads by two at Amundi German Masters

On the Ladies European Tour, Alexandra Forsterling’s superb birdie burst helped her take a two-shot lead into the final round of the Amundi German Masters.

The German posted four consecutive birdies from the 12th en route to a four-under 69, moving him to 10-under despite taking advantage of two par-fives in the closing three holes.

A level-par 73 dropped halfway leader Sara Kauskova to a tie-second with Chiara Nozza, with Germany’s Leonie Herm four paces ahead of Canada’s Anna Huang in fourth.

Esther Henselit fell five behind after two double-bogeys in her four-over 77, moving into a tie-eighth on the final day after England’s Esme Hamilton dropped her to four under with a one-over 74.
