Marcel breaks Benatia’s heart for his Senegalese coach

The French club “Olympic Marseille” announced the departure of Mehdi Benatia, the sports director of the team, this evening.

In a statement published by Marseille on its official website, it is said that Benatia will leave his position tomorrow, Monday.

Benatia returned to Marseille at the end of 2023 as a sporting consultant, before being appointed sporting director at the beginning of 2025.

Marseille’s statement praised Benatia’s tenure as he worked tirelessly to maintain the team’s ambitions.

“Marseille’s owner Frank McCour said. “Thank you to Mehdi Benatia as he has agreed to continue working until the end of the season and has remained fully committed during a difficult period for the club.”

While Benatia explained. “I returned to Marseille with a great desire to serve this club that means a lot to me and with the determination to give my best.”

Some French reports confirmed the strained relationship between Benatia and Senegal coach Habib Bey.
