The US and Nigerian forces have agreed to fight against the commander, who has been declared a “international terrorist” in 2023.

Abu-Bilal al-Minuki, who is said to be the second-in-command of ISIS (ISIS) in the world, has been killed in an operation carried out by the United States and Nigerian forces, President Donald Trump said.
“The brave American military and Nigerian military have successfully executed a well-planned and extremely difficult mission to end the world’s worst terrorist attack,” Trump said Friday in a tweet on Truth Social.

“Abu-Bilal al-Minuki, the second leader of ISIS in the world, thought he could hide in Africa, but he didn’t know that we have sources that inform us about what he is doing.”
Trump also thanked the Nigerian government for its cooperation in the project, but did not say much.
Al-Minuki has been under US sanctions since 2023 for his links to ISIL.
In announcing the name of al-Minuki on the list of “international terrorists”, the US State Department described him as the main leader of ISIL based in the Sahel and part of the General Directorate of Provinces, the organization that oversees the group that provides “operational and financial guidance around the world”.
“With his removal, the work of ISIS around the world has been greatly reduced,” Trump said.
For several months, Trump has been accused Nigeria not doing enough to stop armed groups from fighting Christians in the northwest of the country.
Abuja is he denied the charge and said that terrorists are fighting Muslims and Christians in the country.
On Christmas Day last year, the US military he shot down the plane in Sokoto state targeting ISIL fighters operating in the area.
The US has since to be sent hundreds of troops to Nigeria to to give technical assistance and intelligence sharing in combating armed forces.
The US military is working on a non-combat mission, Nigeria has said.
