LPGA TOUR: Lottie Wade chases Jin Young Ko at Kroger Queen City Championship as Charlie Hull slips on bogey run | golf news

Lottie Wade charged to within a shot of the lead at the LPGA Tour’s Kroger Queen City Championship as defending champion Charlie Hull stumbled into a nightmare bogey blast.

Wade followed up an opening round of 70 with a six-under 66 on Friday morning at Maketewah Country Club, mixing seven birdies with a lone bogey to stay in touch with former world No. 1 Jin Yong Ko and American Amanda Doherty.

The Englishwoman raced up the leaderboard with four birdies in her first six holes and added back-to-back gains in turns to reach six under before canceling out a bogey at the fourth – her 13th – with a shot on her final hole.

“There was less wind, so it was a lot more scoreable,” Wade said. “Definitely hit it better off the tee. I hit more fairways and hit really good approaches.”

Wade briefly joined Hull in a share of second, who followed up with an eagle with birdies at the eighth and tenth, only for last year’s winner to finish with six bogeys in his final eight holes.

Hull dropped a shot at the 11th and posted a three-bogey blast from the 13th, with his posts at the 17th and 18th having a two-over 72 and eight shots off the halfway lead.

Ko set the early pace at seven under after rounds of 67 and 66 on the first two days, with Lydia Ko at two under five and world No. 1 Nellie Korda within three of the lead after second-round 67s with world No. 2 Gino Thetikul.

Solheim Cup captain Anna Nordqvist posted a two-under 68 to move to two under, as England’s Jody Ewart Schadoff birdied a hole-in-one on the par-three 12th – the seventh of her career – to safely reach the weekend.

On the Ladies European Tour, Amundi took a one-shot lead over Ether Henselit at the weekend at the German Masters.

On a somewhat difficult day on the North Course at Green Eagle Golf Course, Henselit mixed in five birdies with three bogeys to move to nine under by posting a 2-under 71 and a shot clear of Sara Kuskova.

“It’s been a little bit up and down,” Henselit said. “Last year won it at nine-under. I’m definitely happy with the score. It’s been a little bit more scorable than last year. I’m always happy to lead a tournament after two days.”

German trio Alexandra Forsterling, Chiara Nozza and Leonie Herm share third place with Norway’s Dorthea Forbrigde, while England’s Esme Hamilton and Megan McLaren are four positions ahead of the halfway mark after rounds of 70 and 72 respectively.
