Neymar’s stance on the World Cup is causing widespread controversy in Brazil
The former captain of the Brazilian national team Cafu spoke about the possibility of Neymar’s presence at the 2026 World Cup and gave full support to coach Carlo Ancelotti.
In a meeting with fellow world champions Brazil, the former full-back said he was in favor of calling up the No.10 for the final squad to be announced next Monday (May 18) in Rio de Janeiro, but he stressed it was not the only factor to consider.

Cafu has expressed his respect for Ancelotti’s opinion on whether or not he invited Neymar and what he would do if he was the coach.
“If I were him, I would do the same thing. Not one or two matches will change what I want and what I plan with the national team. He already knows the names, has the numbers and knows who he can count on. Neymar is improving a lot, playing well, perhaps the only one who can play an important role. Ancelotti changed his mind.”
“We have to respect the opinion of our coach. We are waiting for the roster of the World Championship. We have a lot of important players that can be called up… The important thing is what the Brazilian team will do at the World Cup, whether Neymar is there or not.”
Kafu continued. “Obviously we want him there, but it’s not up to us. Our opinion is worth nothing. It’s the coach’s opinion and everything he analyzes for a long time. “Sometimes we analyze just two matches, but that’s not enough to make a decision to call up a player.”
