Weather monitoring company AcuRite is forcing device owners to use a new software update on May 30, upsetting some longtime customers.
AcuRite, which sells devices such as weather stations, indoor thermometers, and rain gauges, began emailing customers last month to soon control their devices with the AcuRite Now iOS and Android app. AcuRite first launched the program in June 2025 to control its new climate control unit, the AcuRite Optimus. However, AcuRite device owners were still able to use the My AcuRite app, which was launched in 2016.
Soon, My AcuRite will no longer exist, making AcuRite Now the only official AcuRite device management software. The website of My AcuRite the app here says:
As part of our continued investment in providing smarter, more connected solutions, the My AcuRite app will be retiring. To ensure your weather data is free of clutter and to unlock more, all users must switch to AcuRite NOW before May 30, 2026.
On the website, AcuRite Now “works with many products” in Tuya’s SmartLife IoT ecosystemincluding third-party fans, thermostats, light bulbs, plugs, cameras, and firewalls.
“It looks like a bad joke”
Some AcuRite customers are upset about losing access to My AcuRite because they think AcuRite Now is an inferior program.
Those customers have he complained online about the inability to use AcuRite Now to list multiple temperature sensors, difficulty uploading data to the weather station, and the software only reports temperature in total numbers. AcuRite support page says AcuRite “expects” to add programming capabilities to on-screen sensors and rebrand several sensors to AcuRite Now, as well as a desktop version of the app, “soon.”
One notable feature of My AcuRite was sharing data from AcuRite devices and Weather Undergroundreal weather service. AcuRite Now also supports this feature, but users must pay a subscription fee that starts at $2 per month. Registration, called AcuRite Now +it also includes more storage (365 days of history instead of 30).
