The event is presented by Jake Paul’s Most Valuable Promotion (MVP) and will be streamed live on Netflix.
It also features former UFC Heavyweight Champion Francis Ngannou taking on Philip Lins and her fans Nate Diaz vs. Mike Perry.
Nakisa Bidarian, who co-founded MVP with Paul, launched the event in 2011. The first boxing match to be streamed live on Netflix in 2024 compared to Paul’s fight with Mike Tyson laid the groundwork for future events.
Not only did Rousey headline the card, but she played a key role in shaping the card, playing behind-the-scenes roles as an announcer and matchmaker.
This is not just a Ronda Rousey fight, it’s a Ronda Rousey show.
“Her quote was, ‘I can’t be your Conor (McGregor), but I can be Dana (White),'” Biedrian said.
“She has demonstrated the ability to own the promotion, deliver incredible, engaging content, and most importantly, she loves the game.
“She texts me 20, 30 times a day about certain fighters, and why this match is going to be good.”
Rousey criticized how much the UFC pays its fighters, saying she wants to help “challenge the monolith” it’s become.
In the UFC, less than 20% of a fighter’s earnings are paid in boxing, while fighters can expect to earn up to 60% of their event earnings.
Bidarian said the minimum payout for each fighter on the card would be $40,000 (£28,800), with bonuses based on performance.
In contrast, the UFC pays its entry-level fighters between $12,000 (£8,960) and $20,000 (£14,900) plus performance-based bonuses.
“It makes more sense now because it used to only affect our career, but now it’s affecting the future of the sport,” Rousey said.
“He’s bigger than us.
“To give them back their power and to remind people about the fighters.”
