Goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier recently won the French league title and in a few days will play in the Champions League final against Arsenal, and yet, at 24, he is going through one of the toughest periods of his career.
Chevalier joined Paris Saint-Germain from Lille in the summer of 2025, replacing Gianluigi Donnarumma.
Chevalier tried to prove that he is capable of defending France’s goal in the World Cup, but the plan did not work and the goalkeeper was absent from the World Cup roster.
“Sport” newspaper reviewed the report summarizing the disappointment of Chevalier after the decision of his Spanish coach Luis Enrique confirmed his absence from the final stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
“Roosters” coach Didier Deschamps chose a trio of goalkeepers: Mike Mainian, Brice Samba and Robin Risser.
Deschamps believes that readiness and continued participation is a decisive factor before a tournament like the World Cup.

Chevalier discovered that Luis Enrique was not pleasing anyone, even though Paris paid €40 million to buy him from Lille, and he signed a long-term contract at the Parc des Princes, convinced he would be the first-choice goalkeeper for years to come.
Chevalier started as the starting goalkeeper, but his form dropped, giving Enrique a chance for Matvey Safonov, who had been back-up under Donnarumma.
Safonov took advantage of the opportunity, and although he is considered the weakest link in the team, he provides an acceptable performance.
Chevalier missed a golden opportunity to shine in the World Cup and he will have to at least wait until he is 28 years old to experience the experience of playing in the World Cup.
