After hours small Xbox Cloud Game Controller appeared on the Internet, the Brazilian manager Anatel also accidentally released images of what appears to be Microsoft’s upcoming Xbox Elite 3 controller. Technoblog has posted images showing the successor to the Elite 2 controller, with a customizable D-Pad, paddles, and two new weird buttons.
The design of the Elite 3 controller seems to be improved a lot this time, with the addition of two new press wheels on the bottom which could be related to the change of the controller or the new way of entering games like. Microsoft Flight Simulator.
The Elite 3 will also have a new button that will switch between local mode or cloud mode to connect directly to the Xbox Cloud Gaming servers. In the cloud mode this should improve the lag in cloud-based games, and it’s something that will also be available on the smaller Xbox controller that it leaked today.
Microsoft also seems to be moving to a removable battery in the Xbox Elite 3 controller, as Anatel’s drawings show that this updated controller has a smaller (1,528mAh) removable battery compared to the Elite 2 (2,050mAh).
It’s unclear when Microsoft plans to release these new Xbox controllers, but given that they’re jumping on the bandwagon I wouldn’t be surprised to see them announced at the upcoming Xbox event in June.
