The Portuguese coach made a surprising decision before the Al-Etifaq clash
Dutchman Steven Bergwein, a winger for Saudi Al-Ittihad, has put his Portuguese coach Sergio Conceicao, the team’s technical director, in trouble over Moroccan striker Youssef En-Nesiri.
In the thirtieth and penultimate round of the Roshen League, Al-Ittihad was the guest of Al-Etifaq today, Thursday, at the Ego Stadium in Dammam.
In the 25th minute of the match, Bergwein had to leave the field due to a serious injury, which prevented him from finishing the game normally.
Conseissa did not find a suitable alternative to compensate for the Dutch winger’s injury, with the exception of another winger, Abdul Rahman Al-Aboud, who recently missed some matches due to disciplinary decisions against him.
It comes in light of the Portuguese coach’s surprise decision to drop Youssef En-Nessiri from the squad yesterday, Wednesday, even though he was not suspended or injured.

Conceição had to start the game with two wingers in the center of attack in Berguin and France’s Moussa Diaby, in addition to Algerian playmaker Houssem Ouar, before Al-Aboud featured at the Dutch star’s expense.
The match is of great importance for the Al-Ittihad side, given its rivalry with Al-Ettifaq itself, as well as the partnership for fifth place, which qualifies for the preliminary rounds of next season’s AFC Elite Champions League.
Al-Ittihad are 6th in the table with 52 points, behind fifth-placed Al-Taawoon on goal difference and 3 points ahead of seventh-placed Al-Itifaq.
