AMD’s FSR 4.1 upscaling tech is coming to older graphics cards

AMD is bringing its FSR 4.1 technology to older graphics cards. In information on XJack Huynh, head of computing and graphics at AMD, says that FSR 4.1 will be released for RDNA 3 GPUs in July, followed by the introduction of RDNA 2 chips in early 2027.

This summer’s update will allow owners of the Radeon RX 7000-series chip to get AMD’s pass-through upgrade technology. more than 300 supporting gamesincluding Cyberpunk 2077, Battle 6and Assassin’s Creed Shadows wallpapers. A major expansion of FSR 4.1 next year will allow the technology to expand to more devices that use the RDNA 2 architecture, such as Steam Deck.

AMD introduced its own version of FSR 4.1 for Radeon RX 9000-series graphics cards in March. The update builds on its powerful AI technology, which is supposed to improve performance, while offering better visuals and smoother gameplay.

Since the RDNA 3 chips don’t come with hardware to run FSR 4.1, Huynh says AMD had to “carefully control, optimize, and validate the model” to use older GPUs. “We tested hundreds of PC configurations in multiple games to make sure the visuals are sharp and everything is running smoothly,” says Huynh.
