Madonna, Shakira and K-pop megastars BTS will headline the Super Bowl live show at the event. World Cup the final on July 19 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, FIFA has confirmed.
Coldplay’s Chris Martin will host the show, which is the first and final of soccer’s World Cup, but information released on Thursday has raised concerns about when the half-time will be.
“This will be a famous moment at the FIFA World Cup and a show worthy of the biggest game in the world,” FIFA President Gianni Infantino said on Instagram.
The move mirrors the show that took place at the end of the Copa America 2024 in Miami, where Colombian star Shakira performed at half-time at the Hard Rock Stadium.
There was also a half-time show at last year’s FIFA Club World Cup, also at MetLife Stadium, which extended halftime by more than 15 minutes.
Infantino added that FIFA also planned to “take over” Times Square in New York during the final weekend of the World Cup.
The biggest World Cup tournament, with 48 teams, will start on June 11 in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Infantino announced in March last year that there would be “the first half-time show at the FIFA World Cup finals”.
He did not say at that time who will play or how long the game will last.
The half-time extras will support the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, which is working to raise $100m for children around the world during the World Cup.
Last week Shakira teased a new official World Cup song, releasing a short video of the song filmed at the Maracana stadium in Brazil.
The singer – who also produced the 2010 World Cup song “Waka Waka” – announced the song, titled “Dai Dai” in a post on his Instagram account.
In the 67-second video, Shakira appears at the Maracana stadium in Rio de Janeiro, where she participated in a free concert on Copacabana Beach in the city in front of two million people.
Holding “Trionda”, the official soccer ball for the 2026 World Cup, Shakira performed parts of the song in English, along with dancers wearing the colors of teams including the United States and Colombia.
The song was produced by Nigerian artiste Burna Boy and will be released on Thursday. The video, which was also shared by the FIFA World Cup account, ends with the message: “We are ready!”
Shakira has a long association with the World Cup, performing at the end of the 2006 and 2014 World Cups in addition to performing “Waka Waka” at the 2010 tournament.
