The Gulf state has said its relationship with Israel is “not based on secrecy or secrecy”.

The United Arab Emirates has denied Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made what his office described as a “secret visit” to the Gulf country amid the US-Iran conflict.

In a statement issued on Wednesday night by the state news agency, WAM, the UAE said that “its relationship with Israel is public and was established within the framework of the well-known and well-known Abraham Accords. This relationship was not established in secrecy or secrecy”.

“Therefore, any claims related to undisclosed tours or arrangements are null and void unless they are issued by the UAE authorities,” the report said.

The move came hours after Netanyahu’s office said on Wednesday that Netanyahu had held a meeting with President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan during a “secret visit” during Iran’s bombing campaign, without revealing the exact date.

The office said this was a “temporary breakthrough” in the relationship between the two countries.

The development comes as cooperation between Israel and the Gulf states appears to be deepening, particularly on security issues related to Iran.

United States Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee he said this week Israel sent Iron Dome air defense batteries and personnel to the UAE to help counter Iranian aggression.

Speaking at an event in Tel Aviv on Tuesday, Huckabee praised the UAE as an example of the growing relationship between Israel and the Gulf Arab states.

According to a WAM report earlier this month, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed received calls from several regional leaders after the attack on Iran on May 5, including from Netanyahu, who expressed solidarity with the UAE and supported the measures taken to protect security and stability.

The UAE and other Arab countries have been hit by Iran’s drone strikes after the US and Israel began bombing Iran at the end of February. A fragile ceasefire agreed by Iran and the US has been in place since April 8.

Relations between Israel and the UAE have grown gradually since the signing of the so-called Abraham Accords in 2020, an agreement made by the United States that established good relations between Israel and several Arab countries.

The agreement, which was condemned and Palestinian leaders as a “stab in the back”, it was signed in Washington, DC, on September 15, 2020, by the UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Netanyahu.

At the time, the deal was presented as a demand that Israel halt plans to annex parts of the West Bank, including the Jordan Valley.

Since then, Israel has waged a war of genocide in the Gaza Strip, as well as killing people on an almost daily basis in the West Bank and Lebanon.

Netanyahu, meanwhile, has been evasive to be arrested and the International Criminal Court for war crimes in Gaza from November 2024.
