Swatch’s latest collaboration is a $400 pocket watch

Depending on size, shape, and finish, Audemars Piguet Royal Oak watches can range in price from thousands to thousands of dollars. The Audemars Piguet x Swatch Royal Pop pocket watches will be very affordable when available from May 16 through selected Swatch stores – to say the least. The Lépine version, with the crown at 12 o’clock, will be $400, while the Savonnette version, with its crown at 3 o’clock, will be $420. Each will come with a cowhide leather cover but other accessories may be available including a desk handle.

In addition to their stylish waterproof cases made from Bioceramic sapphire glass and scratch-resistant, the pocket watches feature Swatch’s Sistem51 variable that the company developed ten years ago that can be mass-produced on an assembly line to reduce costs. The simple Sistem51 movement in the Royal Pop skips the automatic mechanism to create a windy look with 90 hours of power.

This was not Swatch’s first collaboration with a luxury brand. Swatch is very popular The MoonSwatch Collection It was a partnership with Omega, while his Scuba Fifties the series came from a partnership with Blancpain. However, both Omega and Blancpain are part of the giants The Swatch Group. Audemars Piguet is instead an independent Swiss watchmaker still controlled by the descendants of Jules Louis Audemars and Edward Auguste Piguet.

This may make this offering more desirable to collectors, as well as scalpers. To support what could be a huge demand, Swatch is limiting sales to one pocket watch per person per store per day, According to Wired.
