Eddie Jones: Former England manager suspended for six weeks for abusing officials in Japan.

Former England boss Eddie Jones has been suspended as Japan head coach for abusing match officials during the under-23 tour of Australia last month.

The Japan Rugby Football Union (JRFU) said that due to the “seriousness of the matter” and the content of their contract with Jones, the 66-year-old has been suspended for six weeks and will not play any part in the Brave Blossoms’ next four matches.

Jones will miss his side’s opening Nations Championship match against Italy on July 4, as well as two matches against Hong Kong’s Chinese selection side and a clash against the Maori All Blacks.

The JRFU also said it had taken a pay cut against Jones.

Jones, 66, said he accepted the sentence and was “deeply remorseful” for his behaviour.

“Some inappropriate comments I have made have caused discomfort to local gaming officials and other relevant bodies,” the Australian added.

“I want to sincerely apologize to everyone involved.”

Japan’s under-23 side returned from the tour with three wins from four games, beating Jones’ former Sydney club Randwick 38-21 in their last match.

It’s not the first time Jones has been involved in circumstances back home, having seen the Wallabies reach the 2023 Rugby World Cup in France.
