Emma Raducanu will return to WTA Tour action in Strasbourg next week after a two-month absence through illness.
The British No. 1 has not played a tournament since Indian Wells in March because of a post-viral illness he first fell ill in February, pulling out of four consecutive events.
Raducanu traveled to Rome and practiced ahead of the current Italian Open but ultimately decided he was not quite ready to return.
Taking the wild card to Strasbourg means the 23-year-old will get valuable time on clay ahead of the French Open, which starts on May 24.
Raducanu also received a wild card into the tournament 12 months ago, reaching the second round, and an announcement from the tournament on social media read: “Welcome, Emma! The 2021 US Open champion returns to the clay courts of Strasbourg.”
It has been another difficult start health-wise for Radukanu, who began 2026 struggling to recover from foot problems when he was without a coach after the Australian Open split from Francisco Roig.
Speaking to reporters in Rome about his illness, the former US Open champion said: “Post-viral, it’s pretty hard. You feel tired, you feel tired, no energy. It’s hard, and it’s been constant for quite a while.
“At this point, I wouldn’t say I’m 100 percent. I’m still working my way through. It’s hard to maintain then.”
Radukanu sounded positive about his recovery, though, adding: “I think I’ve really turned a corner and I feel a lot better. I feel great on the court.”
Radukanu is currently ranked 30th in the world.
