UK Weather: Spring temperatures are returning after a cold spell

A northerly wind is blowing across the UK at the moment, bringing the cold arctic air to our shores.

This keeps the daily temperature several degrees above the seasonal norm with some Late season snows at night .

This cold air will stay with us on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, with daytime highs of 9-14C (48-57F), sunny spells and showers and a persistent risk of overnight frost.

The cold air is being driven towards us by high pressure over the Atlantic and low pressure areas to the north and east of the UK – driving northerly winds.

But by the end of the week, that pattern would – slowly but surely – begin to change.

Westerly winds will prevail and temperatures should return to mid-May averages of 12-18C (54-64F) on Sunday.
