Eric Clapton and Bring Me the Horizon’s Oli Sykes have both been hit by objects thrown at them while performing, leaving Skyes in a state of disarray.
As Bring Me the Horizon performed in St Louis on Monday, an audience member threw a phone at Sykes, hitting him in the head. Sykes continued to perform but cut one song from the band’s set and a fan engagement session.
He later wrote on social media: “The phone that went to the head worked very well and I was shaking a little, but the swelling has already gone down… I was struggling a little on stage afterwards because the singing was putting pressure on the bar and making things difficult while playing, so I’m sorry for what I did.”
Clapton was currently performing in Madrid on May 7, when he was caught in the chest with a vinyl album in his hand, which was thrown by a member of the audience at the end of his set. He ended the concert without a fan, although it did not affect his performance in Barcelona on Sunday.
Other musicians have experienced similar situations in recent years. Throwing things on stage has become a habit, not just as a way to communicate with the concert: fans often try to give gifts or get stars to take pictures with their phones.
A large number of such incidents occurred in 2023. Pop star Bebe Rexha was left with a swollen eye after a phone call. was thrown at himwhen Harry Styles, Cardi B, Lady Gaga, Kelsea Ballerini and Steve Lacy all encountered objects or drinks thrown at them, sometimes hitting them. Ava Max endured an image of running on stage and slapping her, injuring her eye, while Pink told a fan “I don’t know how I feel about this” after she threw a bag of ashes on stage, claiming to be their dead mother.
That year, Billie Eilish complained: “I’ve been hit on stage by things for like six years… It’s really annoying when you’re there… She was also hit by something at a concert in December 2024, although she was able to continue.
During her stay in Las Vegas in 2023, Adele addressed the issue, to tell the audience directly: “Have you seen how people live, forgetting about respect during this time?
Last year, two concerts of the world star Zach Bryan were affected by things thrown at him, one of them hit his leg; Azealia Banks cuts German concert short after cup is thrown; and in November, Sabrina Carpenter had to throw the fur chains on stage that were thrown at her during the song.
In March, country singer Riley Green was hit in the head by a phone thrown from the audience, causing him to bleed, although he continued with a Melbourne concert.
