Fucento media group president Ignacio Ibarra resigned on Tuesday, minutes after a press conference in which Real Madrid president Florentino Perez lashed out at the group and its journalists.
Fuchento is a Spanish media giant founded in 2001 that includes the ABC newspaper as well as 18 regional dailies. Ibarra served as president for seven years.
Several Spanish sources revealed that his resignation was voluntary and not due to pressure, as he stated: “After a long time, the time has come to take a step back.”
But the startling timing coincides with Perez’s departure from a conference room where he attacked ABC, accusing its writers of a “coordinated campaign” of disinformation against the club, particularly journalist Ruben Canizares.

The president of “Real Madrid” also decided to cancel his subscription to the newspaper, which has been extended for more than 40 years, “in honor of his father”.
Sports and media circles are waiting to see if this sudden change will end the tension between the Royals and one of the country’s largest media outlets, or if it will mark the beginning of a new phase of escalation.
