With a disastrous number, Pinto enters Derby history through the back door

Saudi Al-Nasr goalkeeper Brazilian Pinto Mateus created one of the most thrilling and shocking moments of the Riyadh derby when he scored a deadly own goal against Saudi Arabia’s Al-Hilal in the Round of 32 of the Saudi Roshen League on Tuesday night.

The goal came in the eighth minute of added time after Pinto failed to clear an attacking throw in the box and accidentally deflected the ball into his own net, giving Al-Hilal a late equalizer and delaying Al-Nasr’s league title win until the finals.

The goal in the derby was not just a passing strike, but a remarkable historical record, as it became the third own goal in the history of the meetings between Al Hilal and Al Nasr in the professional league, all in favor of Al Zaim, according to football statistics network Opta.

Ibrahim Ghaleb had previously mistakenly scored an own goal in the 2012 derby, before the same happened to Omar Hawsawi in the 2014 edition, and Pinto came and repeated the scene more than a decade later.

The Brazilian keeper’s goal also entered the list of historic late goals in the capital derby when it became the third-latest goal in the history of the two teams’ meetings, doubling the brutality of the moment for Al-Alam fans who were preparing for the official title celebrations seconds before the end.
