Meta tells parents when their teens add their likes to the Instagram algorithm


Starting Tuesday, parents can find out more about what their teens are doing on Instagram. Shave and add an item to their Youth Account which shows parents “topics their teens are talking about,” such as “basketball” or “fashion.” Meta also says that it will soon start notifying parents when their child adds a new interest to their algorithm.

In December, Meta announced its own “Your Algorithm” feature, which allows users to choose the topics they want to see more or less in Instagram. Meta wrote in his Tuesday blog post that users of Youth Accounts are already limited in the topics they can add to their algorithm – what is shown to users with Youth Accounts should be. similar to the content of a PG-13 movie.

Meta also announced on Tuesday that it is “consolidating” parental controls for Instagram, Meta Horizon, Facebook, and Messenger into one place in Family Center. Meta says the Family Center will get more management tools in the coming months, such as “joint time” with their youth in Meta programs.
