England Football: Thomas Tuchel has named a 55-man provisional World Cup squad

It will be interesting to see if Alexander-Arnold is unable to make the final game, especially with Tuchel’s injuries at right-back.

The ex-Liverpool player appears to be facing an uphill battle to make the squad, with Tuchel opting for Chelsea’s Reece James, Newcastle’s Tino Livramento and Arsenal’s Ben White.

Last year, Tuchel said Bayern Munich’s Jarrell Kwansah’s natural position is centre-back, ahead of Alexander Arnold’s right-back competition.

But Arsenal defender White. A major doubt for the World Cup after picking up a knee injury in Sunday’s win over West Ham, Livramento is currently unavailable – although the Newcastle defender is hopeful of being fit for the World Cup.

James, Tuchel’s first-choice right-back, has also recently returned from injury.

Elsewhere, Manchester United left-back Shaw could earn an international call-up in time for the tournament.

Shaw has not played for England since the Euro 2024 final defeat to Spain, mainly due to injury.

However, the 34-time England front-line defender is playing regularly for United and has made 36 appearances for the club this season.

Welbeck has been a regular goalscorer for Brighton this season, scoring 14 goals for Fabian Hurzeler’s side – but the veteran is yet to break into Tuchel’s squad.

Bournemouth midfielder Scott was called up to the senior England squad for the first time in November but was left out of Tuchel’s initial party.
