Sam Altman is suing Elon Musk

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has begun his testimony against Elon Musk in a grand jury trial in a California court.

Altman, along with OpenAI President Greg Brockman, are defendants in the lawsuit brought by Musk. Altman, Brockman, and Musk were all among the original founders of OpenAI, with Musk investing $38 million in the ChatGPT-maker’s early days. But the relationship between Musk and other OpenAI founders eventually soured, and Musk left the company, later founding its direct competitor, xAI. In recent years, Musk and Altman have traded barbs and filed numerous lawsuits against each other, most notably Musk’s actions with OpenAI, many of which have been demoted or fired.

The Musk v. Altman the case has already produced testimony from prominent AI leaders including Brockman; Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella; former board member of OpenAI (and the mother of Musk’s children) Shivon Zilis; and former OpenAI CTO (and, briefly, CEO) Mira Murati, who is now the founder of his own AI, Thinking Machines Lab. Musk he is calling several options, including asking the court to remove Altman and Brockman from their positions and end OpenAI’s restructuring of the profits.
