Real Madrid prefers to put the Brazilian Vinicius Junior as the leader of the club’s new project instead of the Frenchman Kylian Mbappe, although he did not mention the name of the technical director who will lead the Merengues next season.
Many press reports indicate that Benfica coach Jose Mourinho is the most popular candidate to lead Real Madrid next season, replacing Alvaro Arbeloa.
Mourinho previously managed Real Madrid between 2010 and 2013, but is now seeking a second term at the Royal Castle.
It was reported by the Catalan newspaper Mundo Deportivo “Real Madrid” has chosen Vinicius Junior as the captain of the new project To convince him to renew his contract with Al Merengue.
The Brazilian’s contract with Real Madrid expires in June 2027 and he has yet to agree a contract extension, knowing that he will become a free agent next January and can sign a free contract with any club.
The newspaper adds that Real Madrid intends to give the 25-year-old Vinicius a more prominent role and may be appointed the team’s first captain, and president Florentino Perez has already spoken to him about leading the team in the new project.
He continued. “Whether or not Mourinho is in charge of the technical staff, Real Madrid want Vinicius to be the link that unites the team.”
“It remains to be seen how Mbappe, who has a great relationship with Vinicius, will take this matter, but the truth is that the Brazilian is the most wanted player in the dressing room, despite previous differences with some of his team-mates on the pitch.”
Real Madrid came off a fresh start to the season after losing La Liga to Barcelona and an early exit from the Copa del Rey, in addition to a quarter-final bye to the Champions League at the hands of Bayern Munich.
