Young star Lamine Jamal became the focus of widespread controversy in political and media circles within the Zionist Organization after he appeared to raise a Palestinian flag during Barcelona’s La Liga title celebration.
Videos posted on social media platforms showed the 18-year-old waving a Palestinian flag from the top of an open-air bus that traveled through the streets of Barcelona to celebrate the title, amid much public interaction from the club’s supporters.
The scene, which was widely praised by Arab and international audiences, in turn raised a wave of anger in the Zionist establishment.
Organized political and media attack
According to the Al Jazeera Net website, Zionist Minister of National Security Itamar Ben Gvir led the attack on the player and wrote a post characterized by harsh rhetoric on his official Facebook page, claiming that Jamal “raises the flag of a non-existent organization” and that he “identifies with the symbols of terrorism”.
He was followed by a number of well-known Hebrew media journalists and commentators, including Zvi Yehezkel, who made a sarcastic post on the “X” platform, where he said: observers are considered inflammatory in nature.
Accused news coverage
The media of the Zionist organization hastened to address the incident with a sharp critical tone. Channel 12 reported that Gamal “turned a sporting celebration into a political event”, while Yedioth Ahronoth described his behavior as “a repeated expression of pro-Palestinian political positions”.
The newspaper recalled the footballer’s previous stance during a friendly between Egypt and Spain last month, when he ignored chants from an anti-Muslim crowd, saying it “reflected a clear political orientation”.
News website Walla deemed the player “exploited the international spotlight to send a political message”, while website Sport 5 merely referred to his Moroccan origins and religious affiliation, while website ICE Sports described the scene as “one of the most moving shots of Barcelona’s title celebrations”.
An exciting announcement from the Barcelona Fans Association
Later, the Barcelona Fans’ Association in the Zionist organization known as “Barca Mania” issued a strongly worded statement attacking the player and describing him in insulting terms, saying that his behavior “affects the feelings of tens of thousands of fans”.
The statement said the association had “sent an official letter of protest to the Barcelona administration, warning of ‘potential economic consequences'” due to the ‘political provocation’. He added: “Hundreds of thousands of Zionist Organization fans represent the club’s main consumer force and their voices must be taken seriously.”
